Review Methodology

The six criteria

Each product receives a subrating, and the overall score is a weighted average of the six.

• Value — installed price against what comparable equipment delivers, not sticker price.
• Features — capability that changes daily use: seat and rail design, controls, folding, safety sensors, capacity.
• Ease of use — whether an operator with limited hand strength, reach, or vision can use it unassisted.
• Warranty — length and, more importantly, what is actually covered and for how long labor is included.
• Installation — dealer network quality, typical lead time, and how much construction the product forces.
• Reliability — service call patterns, parts availability, and how long units stay in service.

What we do not do

We do not accept payment for a rating, we do not let manufacturers review scores before publication, and we do not average away real problems. A product with a serious safety or service issue is called out plainly regardless of its other strengths.

Where our data comes from

Hands-on evaluation where available, dealer quotes gathered as an ordinary shopper, manufacturer specifications, installer interviews, homeowner pricing submissions, and warranty documents read in full.
