How We Make Money

Our revenue sources

We earn money in four ways, and each one is disclosed where it appears:

• Affiliate partnerships. When we link to a product you can buy online and you purchase through that link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
• Advertising. We sell display advertising. Ads are visually separated from editorial content and are never presented as a recommendation.
• Contractor referrals. When you request quotes through a form on this site, we may be paid a fee by the professionals who receive your request.
• Sponsored placements. A company can pay for a clearly labeled placement. Every one carries a visible "Sponsored" tag.

What money cannot buy

No company can buy a positive review, a higher rating, a spot in a "best" list, or removal of a criticism. Rankings are decided by the editorial team before any commercial conversation happens, and our commercial team has no vote.

We do not build fake editorial rankings out of paid placements. If a list is influenced by payment, it is labeled as advertising, not as a ranking.

Why this matters

Readers arrive here because they are about to spend thousands of dollars. Trust is the only asset this publication has that cannot be replaced. If our recommendations stop being honest, the business stops being worth running.
